Dentures in London

Also sometimes referred to as false teeth, dentures are dental appliances that fit over the gums to replace missing teeth. They are usually manufactured from acrylic and metal and are made to look like your natural teeth.

As well as serving a cosmetic purpose, dentures can also provide a bit of extra structure to support any teeth that you still have. What’s more, they can also help you to live a more normal life, even if all of your teeth have been removed, as they can facilitate activities like chewing and talking.

Here at Museum Dental Suites, our team of dental professionals can work with you to fit a set of dentures and help you through the adaptation process.

How do they work?

Dentures are removable pieces that fit over your gums and jawbone to act as substitutes for your missing teeth. Complete dentures can be provided to replace all of your upper or lower teeth, while partial dentures are also available to replace just one or a few teeth.

In some cases, patients may be looking for a more permanent solution, if this is the case for you, a dental implant might be another option to consider.

The process of getting dentures will depend on your specific situation, and your dentist will discuss the process with you thoroughly during a consultation. If you’re having teeth extracted, the denture may be fitted as soon as the teeth are removed, this means you won’t be without teeth. In other situations, dentures will be fitted separately. For example, sometimes, your gums will need time to heal before wearing a denture is appropriate.

Fitting dentures is a fairly simple procedure. Your dentist will take an impression, as well as various measurements of your mouth and fit a trial denture to determine the right shape and fit. The colour and overall appearance of the denture will also be considered to ensure the permanent version looks good in your mouth.

Getting used to your Dentures

Whether you have a complete or partial set of dentures, it’s likely to take a little bit of time to get used to wearing them after all, adapting to dentures is a learned process, not something that will happen instinctively.

The first thing to remember is that your dentures should never make your mouth or gums sore. If you are experiencing pain, you’ll need to talk to your dental professional. However, you will also need to persevere through any mild discomfort, avoid taking the denture out unless it’s for a specific reason, and within a few days you should be getting used to it.

It’s also important to remember that with a complete denture, eating will be a different experience. You’ll no longer be able to take bites of food. Instead, chop or slice foods into sizes that can be easily chewed. Denture adhesives may make eating an easier process.

Many patients find that their dentures can make it more difficult to speak at first. Again, perseverance is essential, and with a bit of practice you’ll be able to speak normally again. Reading aloud or singing to yourself are good ways to practice talking with your dentures, even when there’s nobody around to hear you.

Careful maintenance is also important for dentures, and they should be cleaned daily to prevent staining and to clear away bacteria. If you have a partial denture, be sure to also brush and floss your natural teeth twice daily to keep them healthy.

You should also have your dentures and mouth checked by a dental professional on a yearly basis. With good care, your dentures should last for many years.

reviews-star.pngHighly recommend Museum Dental Suite. Their work is of the highest calibre, professional and friendly. I'm very thankful they for excellent aftercare advice and for making me relaxed and so well treated. I've recommended them to both my family and friends.

reviews-star.pngI have been undertaking a cosmetic treatment (Invisalign) for around eight months here, off the back of a recommendation of a friend who had the same treatment. The professionalism and perfectionism with which my treatment was delivered was outstanding, as was the general service and were all of the staff I encountered.

My dentist Dr. Wahab Shakir was particularly great, with a friendly, reassuring manner and an eye for detail. He always went above and beyond, without ever being asked.

I'm now almost at the end of my treatment and couldn't be more pleased with how treatment has gone. Given the service and end result I'd also consider it excellent value for money.

Keep up the good work Museum Dental Suites!

reviews-star.pngFirstly what a great dentist, all the staff were friendly and very helpful as this was my first time here.

I had called for an emergency appointment due to a sudden cracked tooth and Dr Wahab Shakir despite the end of day fast approaching (30 minutes till close) he said he would see me.

The treatment was not straight forward due to the crack but Dr Shakir after a lengthy time managed to save the tooth/restore it and prevent what I believe most dentists would have done which install a crown - Thank you!

Highly recommend this dentist and service and I am grateful for not only seeing me within an hour but also staying passed closing time and finally for doing a Stella job.

reviews-star.pngBest dentist ever hands down. Least painful and least scary experiences here (I'm usually really scared of going to the dentist, and even find the initial anaesthetic injection painful) - they really care about the patient, and making sure you're comfortable, results are also fab. Seriously can't imagine a better dentist!
