Composite Veneers in London

Should all you have ever wanted was to get a better smile, then dental veneers may just be what you actually need.

Put simply, veneers are shells that are thin in structure and customised to cover the front of your natural teeth snugly to give them a great look. They are also known as composite bonding. In fact, one of the several ways to change the appearance of your teeth is through veneers.

Other ways include tooth bonding, crowns and of course, enameloplasty.

Veneers are of two main types: porcelain and composite. Just as the name implies, the porcelain kind of veneer is made of porcelain material to fit over the teeth, while composite veneers are sometimes produced from a resin that has the colour of the teeth; just the kind used in tooth bonding as well.

Since there are advantages and drawbacks to these two types of veneers, it is crucial to consider the complexity of the problem you are having and how much you would want to spend in getting the treatment done.

Who should use veneers?

Tooth imperfections can be covered up with dental veneers to give you an improved smile. Some of these Imperfections range from teeth that are stained, crooked, chipped, discoloured, badly shaped, to an eroded enamel.

Only the front part of your teeth are covered by veneers, and they differ from crowns in that crowns are thicker and cover an entire tooth from behind and in front. Again, you may or may not have to trim or reduce the teeth with veneers, but crowns do require more tooth trimming.

Should you feel like altering the shape, colour, and appearance of your teeth even though you've got teeth that are already in good shape, veneers can give you satisfactoryresults. This means that more of dental aesthetics are achieved with veneers.Alternatively, crowns are typically only used when the teeth are badly damaged. For instance, in the case of a broken tooth, or when there is a need for a root canal, a better treatment may be crowns.

Highly recommend Museum Dental Suite. Their work is of the highest calibre, professional and friendly. I'm very thankful they for excellent aftercare advice and for making me relaxed and so well treated. I've recommended them to both my family and friends.

I have been undertaking a cosmetic treatment (Invisalign) for around eight months here, off the back of a recommendation of a friend who had the same treatment. The professionalism and perfectionism with which my treatment was delivered was outstanding, as was the general service and were all of the staff I encountered.

My dentist Dr. Wahab Shakir was particularly great, with a friendly, reassuring manner and an eye for detail. He always went above and beyond, without ever being asked.

I'm now almost at the end of my treatment and couldn't be more pleased with how treatment has gone. Given the service and end result I'd also consider it excellent value for money.

Keep up the good work Museum Dental Suites!

What can composite veneers be used for?

Nearly anyone can use composite veneers. They find use in:

  • Improving the appearance of the teeth
  • Protecting the teeth surface
  • Altering the colour of the teeth, usually to a brighter shade
  • Aligning the teeth and making them more straight
  • Filling gaps between teeth or making them larger in size
  • Fixing chipped or broken teeth

What are the types of veneers?

During your consultation, the dentist may present you with 3 different options for veneers: direct composite veneers, indirect composite veneers, and porcelain veneers.

Let's look at what these veneers types are all about.

Direct composite veneers

These ones are made of composite resin material and bonded directly to the teeth. This type of veneer if recommended for treatment, takes less time for the dentist to prep your teeth for application. And the procedure is least invasive.

Indirect composite veneers

This one differs primarily from the direct veneers in the method of application, and not in the material utilised.Just like your dentist would do for direct composite, your teeth will be prepared, but the veneers are customised indirectly outside of the mouth in your dentist's office or a dental lab.

While waiting for the indirect veneers to be made, you will get a set of temporary veneers. During your next visit, the indirect veneers are bonded to your teeth with an adhesive. An essential feature of the indirect composite veneers is that they can tolerate more abrasions and resist breakage more than their direct counterparts. But they are more expensive.

Porcelain veneers

They are simply described as customised veneers made from porcelain for the teeth. At your appointment, the dentist will take impressions of your teeth to produce the veneers using the mould in the laboratory. It may take 1 week or more to get this done. But in the interim, you will be given a set of temporary veneers for use.

After making your porcelain, these thin shells will be attached to the front of your teeth, and your dentist will shape them to look like your natural teeth.

Each one of these veneers hasits advantages and disadvantages. You need to know these before you decide on which one to use.

Perks of composite veneers

  • More affordable
  • Application takes lesser time ifit's direct veneers
  • Can makeup the teeth to hide many aesthetic faults like discolouration, badly shaped teeth, and other issues
  • Nearly anyone can have it
  • The procedure is easy to reverse than that of porcelain. It is so because it requires no drilling of teeth to place the veneers.
  • Easy to repair directly unlike porcelain veneers which if broken requires a new one from the lab for replacement.
  • Since they don't have to cover all the tooth surface, they are ideal for diastema closure
  • Tooth drilling is not required, which qualifies it as a reversible and desirable form of dental treatment.

Drawbacks of composite veneers

  • It's not as strong as porcelain and may fracture sometimes
  • Needs frequent repairs and replacement than porcelain
  • They can stain easily but can be cleaned and polished regularly. What a patient eats or drinks, plus their lifestyle contributes to how neat or unpleasant the veneers would look.
  • The quality and looks of a composite veneer depends on how skilled and experienced the dentist is. You need something more than a good dentist to achieve optimum results.
  • Composite veneers cannot be whitened. If you want to whiten your teeth, do so first before getting the veneers. They can be designed to match the colour of your whitened teeth.

Firstly what a great dentist, all the staff were friendly and very helpful as this was my first time here.

I had called for an emergency appointment due to a sudden cracked tooth and Dr Wahab Shakir despite the end of day fast approaching (30 minutes till close) he said he would see me.

The treatment was not straight forward due to the crack but Dr Shakir after a lengthy time managed to save the tooth/restore it and prevent what I believe most dentists would have done which install a crown - Thank you!

Highly recommend this dentist and service and I am grateful for not only seeing me within an hour but also staying passed closing time and finally for doing a Stella job.

This is a top notch dentist who makes you feel at ease which for someone liked me is important. The staff are very professional, polite, courteous and friendly. Marios, my dentist is extremely patient and cares about your dental care and the service you receive. Just received my new dentures and they have been done to a very high standard and am very pleased. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the treatment/service I received.

Benefits of porcelain veneers

  • It's custom-made
  • Durable since its material is stronger
  • Looks more natural
  • Can treat more serious problems like dark stains on teeth, severely misaligned teeth, than composite veneers

Drawbacks of porcelain veneers

  • It is very costly
  • Requires more than a single visit to be done
  • The shells can fall off and may require re-attachment to the teeth

The procedure for Composite veneers

The process starts with a thorough cleaning of your teeth and prepping for the application.Tooth reduction involving the removal of a layer of tooth enamel may be done by your dentist so that material can fit. However, if it's just slight changes to tooth colour and shape that's required, there won't be any need for reduction.

The next step will vary depending on whether you are getting direct or indirect composite veneers.

For direct veneers, the dentist will etch the enamel of your tooth so the material can stick. An adhesive glue will be added to bind the composite resin material to your teeth. Finally, very thin layers of composite materials are added to the teeth surface.

The layers of the composite resin will be cured (quickly hardened) using a special light.Working with your dentist, you can pick the colour or shade of resin of your choice. The dentist can mix different colours of composite resin to give your veneers a more natural appearance.

But if you're going for indirect veneers, after prepping your teeth, an impression of them will be taken by your dentist.Indirect veneers are designed outside your mouth. After getting them ready, your dentist will bond them by etching your teeth and applying an adhesive to your teeth. It is this adhesive material that will keep the veneers in position.

Lastly, the composite veneers will be attached to your teeth and hardened with a light. Stray edges will be cleaned up and polishing done to make your teeth look beautiful. Most people do not require sedation to go through this process. But if you do, immediately the anaesthesia wears off, you should feel fine to resume your daily activities.

What's the expected lifespan of composite veneers?

Presently, composite veneers last longer than they did years ago. On average, you can use your veneers for 5 to 7 years. However, you will need to replace your veneers after this time. In comparison, 7 years is shorter than 10 to 15 years which porcelain veneers are expected to last.

Just like with everything, you need to care for and maintain your composite veneers to make them last longer.

Stick with a good dental hygiene plan including regular brushing with a non-abrasive toothpaste. Do not chew on ice, pencil, pen and other hard objects with your front teeth.Drinks like coffee or tea or other coloured beverages which may stain your newly acquired veneers should be avoided as well. You won't want to spend all that money and time for nothing.

Composite veneers: before and after

After receiving veneers treatment, the appearance of your teeth will change greatly from what it used to be.

Can you take out composite veneers?

Absolutely! Your dentist can take out the veneers for repair or replacement by adding fresh composite material.

Cost of composite veneers

You may want to consider the price of veneers because they are pricey.Factors like application time which is higher for veneers, add to the cost. Next, the high quality of the materials used and the job done, which is expected to last is key. Besides, the outcome of the procedure will be noticed once you open your mouth.

Composite veneers are inexpensive and they are lesser in price than porcelain veneers.

What you pay for composite veneers will be different depending on where you live, your dentist, and the number of veneers you need. Composite veneers starts from £195 to £395 per tooth, you can get composite veneers by booking an appointment with one of our cosmetic dentists at Museum Dental Suites.

Insurance sometimes does not cover the cost of cosmetic dental work, so you will probably have to pay for the entire procedure if you want to change the appearance of your smile. But in a case where you have damaged tooth, part or the entire cost may be covered by your insurance.

Should there be no insurance coverage and the cost is a concern, talk to our dentist about a payment plan. Museum Dental Suites offer finance plan and also discounts for fitting a certain number of composite veneers at once.

Do composite veneers break easily?

No. They do not break easily or like the way porcelain veneers break. A number of reasons can cause composite veneers to chip. One common reason is biting and chewing on hard food, or bruxism (teeth grinding). Should composite veneers get broken, they can be easily repaired in a single appointment. This is not the same with porcelain veneers.

Best dentist ever hands down. Least painful and least scary experiences here (I'm usually really scared of going to the dentist, and even find the initial anaesthetic injection painful) - they really care about the patient, and making sure you're comfortable, results are also fab. Seriously can't imagine a better dentist!

After lots of research I was very happy with the results and the service at Museum Dental. 100% I would recommend to a friend. I couldn't be more pleased.

Look your best, feel your best, expect the best.
