Invisalign Tips Everyone Needs to Know

Invisalign is one of the most used orthodontic treatment. If you are considering correcting your orthodontic issue with Invisalign or you just began your Invisalign treatment, here are some of the best Invisalign tips to make your Invisalign journey a smooth sail.

  1. Wear your Invisalign aligners for at least 20 hours daily

For your Invisalign aligners to work as they should, you’ll need to wear the aligners for the required number of hours daily, which is usually a minimum of 20 hours every day. You would still have about four hours every day to do whatever you like. The four hours should be sufficient for you to eat, take any drink other than water, cleaning the aligners and brush your teeth.

You may be able to take out your aligners for special occasions, but endeavour to discuss it with your orthodontist first. If you are unable to have your aligners on for at least 20 hours every day, it may affect your treatment.

  1. Always keep your Invisalign aligners in their case when you take them out

This is one of the essential tips for Invisalign. Misplacing your clear aligners is easy, so to prevent this, you need to put the aligners in their case whenever you remove them from your mouth. This also prevents them from getting damaged. Wrapping the clear aligners in a piece of tissue will likely make them get thrown away unknowingly.

  1. Always have your toothbrush

After any meal, you need to brush your teeth before re-inserting your Invisalign aligners. Although this is not always easy, it helps you prevent food from getting trapped between your aligners and teeth. Trapped food may lead to staining of the aligners, making them more noticeable, bad breath, and tooth decay.

Always have a toothbrush with you as it comes in handy when you eat out. If you do not have a toothbrush, you may swish your mouth with water or chew sugar-free gum but ensure you brush as soon as you can.

  1. Drink only water while wearing aligners

Beverages like cola, coffee, and tea can stain your Invisalign aligners, and the only thing you can take while wearing your aligner is water. Taking sugary drinks with your clear aligners on will cause tooth decay and acid erosion because the drink may seep between your teeth and aligners.

Try to take only water between meals as this also helps you reduce the number of times you take out your aligners daily.

  1. Do not clean your aligners using hot water

Although you need your aligner to be clean, do not clean them with hot water. Hot water may warp your Invisalign clear aligners as they are plastic, and this makes them lose their shape and become ineffective.

  1. Do not clean the aligners with toothpaste

Most toothpaste contains abrasives which can damage the aligners, make them dull and more prominent, so try not to clean your aligner with toothpaste. You can clean your aligners by soaking them in cold water and a mild detergent then brushing them gently.

  1. Do not dispose of your aligners

After you switch out your aligners to a new set, keep the previous set in their case and store safely. You may not need them again, but in the event where you misplace or damage the new set of aligners, you may use the previous set until you get new ones. This helps you preserve your progress and avoid extended treatment time.

  1. Remove the aligners carefully

To make taking off your aligners easier, start removing it from the back then gently loosen the aligners with your finger and gradually work your way to the front. With this, the aligners will come off quickly, but you can also get an Invisalign accessory that helps you remove the aligners without damaging the aligners.

  1. Wear your retainers

Wearing your retainers after you complete your Invisalign treatment, ensure that your teeth remain in their right position. It usually takes some time for the bones supporting the teeth to stabilise and get used to the new position, but retainers help the teeth remain in their straight position.

Even after the bones have stabilised which may take up to a year, you still need to wear your retainers to maintain your teeth.

Follow these tips for getting the best Invisalign results and also seek your orthodontist help if anything goes wrong during your treatment. Ensure that you attend all your check-ups during your treatment if you want to achieve perfectly straight teeth.

Highly recommend Museum Dental Suite. Their work is of the highest calibre, professional and friendly. I'm very thankful they for excellent aftercare advice and for making me relaxed and so well treated. I've recommended them to both my family and friends.

I have been undertaking a cosmetic treatment (Invisalign) for around eight months here, off the back of a recommendation of a friend who had the same treatment. The professionalism and perfectionism with which my treatment was delivered was outstanding, as was the general service and were all of the staff I encountered.

My dentist Dr. Wahab Shakir was particularly great, with a friendly, reassuring manner and an eye for detail. He always went above and beyond, without ever being asked.

I'm now almost at the end of my treatment and couldn't be more pleased with how treatment has gone. Given the service and end result I'd also consider it excellent value for money.

Keep up the good work Museum Dental Suites!

Firstly what a great dentist, all the staff were friendly and very helpful as this was my first time here.

I had called for an emergency appointment due to a sudden cracked tooth and Dr Wahab Shakir despite the end of day fast approaching (30 minutes till close) he said he would see me.

The treatment was not straight forward due to the crack but Dr Shakir after a lengthy time managed to save the tooth/restore it and prevent what I believe most dentists would have done which install a crown - Thank you!

Highly recommend this dentist and service and I am grateful for not only seeing me within an hour but also staying passed closing time and finally for doing a Stella job.

This is a top notch dentist who makes you feel at ease which for someone liked me is important. The staff are very professional, polite, courteous and friendly. Marios, my dentist is extremely patient and cares about your dental care and the service you receive. Just received my new dentures and they have been done to a very high standard and am very pleased. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the treatment/service I received.

Best dentist ever hands down. Least painful and least scary experiences here (I'm usually really scared of going to the dentist, and even find the initial anaesthetic injection painful) - they really care about the patient, and making sure you're comfortable, results are also fab. Seriously can't imagine a better dentist!

After lots of research I was very happy with the results and the service at Museum Dental. 100% I would recommend to a friend. I couldn't be more pleased.

Look your best, feel your best, expect the best.
