How Wearing Braces Affects your Face

How Wearing Braces Affects your Face

At Museum Dental we know that having orthodontic treatment Is about a lot more than merely straightening teeth. The relationship between the lower and upper arches of teeth are important too and the aim is always to bring these together so that they are in alignment.

Face Shape Changes

Invisalign aligners are fast becoming the most popular way of correcting a bite and along with straightening teeth it can have the added benefit of having a positive effect on facial features and even face shape. When work has been done to improve mild spacing or overcrowding a new straight toothed smile will probably be the only noticeable improvement that people will see.  However, in more severe cases with a pronounced underbite or overbite perhaps, the shape of the face and the look of the features of the face can also be affected. Having the teeth and the jaws aligned properly can enhance your facial features and this will be much more noticeable.

At Museum Dental our orthodontists are expert in working with function and ascetics so that they can correct misaligned teeth in a way that they also produce a positive effect  on the face and on the facial features.  Our experts always take a holistic view so that gum and teeth health as well as aesthetics are all considered in a patients treatment plan.

Self Consciousness

Prior to treatment with Invisalign aligners a person may not be fully utilising their smile and this will have a knock on effect on their facial features. This could be because they feel self-conscious about their teeth and do not smile as much because of that.  Once our orthodontists have examined a patient, they will be planning the best way to restore the teeth to optimum position to allow the patient to smile with confidence once again.  Invisalign aligners are perfect for achieving this and have the added advantage that because they are invisible nobody will know you are wearing them unless you tell them.

Post Invisalign Face Changes

In nature  it is actually quite rare to find perfect symmetry in a human face , even if the asymmetry is hardly noticeable at all. Sometimes there will be significant discrepancies and those discrepancies will begin with the jaw. Where this is the case then Invisalign clear braces can be used to make a vast improvement and achieve symmetry.  It will not alter features but what it actually does is changes the angles between the nose and the lips and other parts of the face so that facial features do look different. In a younger patient who is still developing and growing it is easier to manipulate the facial structure and the jaw. In fact sometimes the main objective of orthodontics carried out at an early age is to add balance to a child’s face by guiding the growth of the jaw.

Common Examples of Conditions Treated Successfully by Braces or Invisalign:

  • Overbite – With an overbite the top teeth stick out over of the bottom teeth to a significant degree.  This can create the look of sunken cheeks or a weak chin. Correcting this condition with Invisalign aligners will produce much more balanced features and will give a strong looking jaw line and chin.
  • Underbite – An underbite is what we describe as the bottom teeth sitting in front of the top teeth causing the lower jaw to stick out. If this is corrected with braces or with the Invisalign a person may look noticeably different with their features looking more in proportion.
  • Open Bite – if a person has an open bite this means that the front teeth will not come together at all. If a person with a severe open bite tries to close their lips, they would have to stretch them so that they would fit over the protruding teeth. This will often give the face a long look and it might also give rise to problems with eating or with speaking. Invisalign can make a big difference to this condition allowing the front teeth to be in alignment and improving the smile and other facial features.

When patients come to see us at Museum Dental they are usually concerned about a dental issue. It often comes as a very pleasant surprise to them to learn how much difference Invisalign aligners can make to their facial features.  We always take time to explain to our patients everything that will be connected with their treatment.  increasing confidence by adjusting facial features that people have been self-conscious about is all part of the service.

reviews-star.pngHighly recommend Museum Dental Suite. Their work is of the highest calibre, professional and friendly. I'm very thankful they for excellent aftercare advice and for making me relaxed and so well treated. I've recommended them to both my family and friends.

reviews-star.pngI have been undertaking a cosmetic treatment (Invisalign) for around eight months here, off the back of a recommendation of a friend who had the same treatment. The professionalism and perfectionism with which my treatment was delivered was outstanding, as was the general service and were all of the staff I encountered.

My dentist Dr. Wahab Shakir was particularly great, with a friendly, reassuring manner and an eye for detail. He always went above and beyond, without ever being asked.

I'm now almost at the end of my treatment and couldn't be more pleased with how treatment has gone. Given the service and end result I'd also consider it excellent value for money.

Keep up the good work Museum Dental Suites!

reviews-star.pngFirstly what a great dentist, all the staff were friendly and very helpful as this was my first time here.

I had called for an emergency appointment due to a sudden cracked tooth and Dr Wahab Shakir despite the end of day fast approaching (30 minutes till close) he said he would see me.

The treatment was not straight forward due to the crack but Dr Shakir after a lengthy time managed to save the tooth/restore it and prevent what I believe most dentists would have done which install a crown - Thank you!

Highly recommend this dentist and service and I am grateful for not only seeing me within an hour but also staying passed closing time and finally for doing a Stella job.

reviews-star.pngThis is a top notch dentist who makes you feel at ease which for someone liked me is important. The staff are very professional, polite, courteous and friendly. Marios, my dentist is extremely patient and cares about your dental care and the service you receive. Just received my new dentures and they have been done to a very high standard and am very pleased. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the treatment/service I received.

reviews-star.pngBest dentist ever hands down. Least painful and least scary experiences here (I'm usually really scared of going to the dentist, and even find the initial anaesthetic injection painful) - they really care about the patient, and making sure you're comfortable, results are also fab. Seriously can't imagine a better dentist!

reviews-star.pngAfter lots of research I was very happy with the results and the service at Museum Dental. 100% I would recommend to a friend. I couldn't be more pleased.

Look your best, feel your best, expect the best.
