Knocked out tooth, also known as “avulsed” tooth is considered to be the most serious dental emergencies for your permanent teeth. This usually occurs due to sudden accident or biting on a hard food that could causes your teeth to break, crack or dislodge. However, such kind of damages can be fixed easily by consulting a dentist. If any of these issues are left untreated, they may lead to severe complications. By acting quickly, you get a suitable chance to save your damaged gems.

If you have a knocked out tooth, you should:
  • Recover the tooth if possible

  • Hold it back by the crown

  • Clean the molars if dirty using your saliva or milk

  • Fix adult teeth back to its position but not of a baby

  • Bite on a soft cloth for holding the gems in place

  • Visit a dental practitioner during emergency

There are various reputed dental clinics in London where the experienced dental practitioners, orthodontists and periodontists can help you deal with broken, crooked or damaged teeth. If you are suffering from any of these problems, get in touch with an expert and solve your dental issues.

What you can do for a knocked out tooth

If a tooth is knocked out, the blood vessels, nerves and tissues get damaged. The worst part is that your blood vessels and nerves cannot be recovered. As such, your avulsed teeth will require root canal treatment. However, the bone can be attached to the root of the tooth when it is put back into place. It is advisable to see your dentist when a tooth has been knocked out. He may also give you great tips on handling an avulsed tooth and avoid further damage. Read on to know how you can save your molars from crack or damage.

  • Hold the molar carefully and do not touch the root under the gum that may get damaged.

  • If the molar is dirty, try to hold it by the crown and then rinse it with milk or saliva, as water can damage the soft tissue. It is advisable not to wipe with any fabric as this can damage it.

  • Drop the molars in a glass of milk or in saliva and keep it moist. In case you cannot do so, try to place it in the mouth between cheek and gum. Children may not be able to keep the teeth safely in their mouth without swallowing it. You can place a child’s a milk tooth in a glass of milk or cover it in just enough saliva.

  • Slip the molar back into the socket. There are many situations when the tooth will slip in the mouth. You should not try to force it into the socket. If it does not get back into its original place, keep it in milk or cover it in saliva and visit the dentist as soon as possible. If the gem is not broken into several places, you should try to save it in some way or the other.

You may consult your dentist in London if you are having a knocked out tooth.

What your dental practitioner will do

Sometimes, it may be simple to fix the molar back to its place. However, at times, it can be complicated if the tooth is broken or cracked. Your dental practitioner will:

  • Remove debris and small food particles from the socket and slip tooth back to its place.

  • Re-plant molar immediately after the injury.

  • Perform root canal treatment.

  • Support avulsed teeth with a composite material or soft wire to hold the tooth.

Your dentist will then decide how long the splint should remain with the permanent teeth. The most suitable method will depend on the time from when the molars had been out of the mouth and other factors.

If the jawbone was not broken, the root will reattach to the bone in nearly three to four weeks. However, if there is more damage in the bone, it may require almost six to eight weeks to repair.

When I need an emergency dentist appointment in London, finding an experienced dental practitioner can only help me solve my oral problems. Your dentist will examine your oral health in the next three to six months. If there aren’t any symptoms of infection, your dental visit will occur annually. He will follow up for the next two to three years to ensure that the molar had been re-implanted successfully.

I have been undertaking a cosmetic treatment (Invisalign) for around eight months here, off the back of a recommendation of a friend who had the same treatment. The professionalism and perfectionism with which my treatment was delivered was outstanding, as was the general service and were all of the staff I encountered.

My dentist Dr. Wahab Shakir was particularly great, with a friendly, reassuring manner and an eye for detail. He always went above and beyond, without ever being asked.

I'm now almost at the end of my treatment and couldn't be more pleased with how treatment has gone. Given the service and end result I'd also consider it excellent value for money.

Keep up the good work Museum Dental Suites!

Firstly what a great dentist, all the staff were friendly and very helpful as this was my first time here.

I had called for an emergency appointment due to a sudden cracked tooth and Dr Wahab Shakir despite the end of day fast approaching (30 minutes till close) he said he would see me.

The treatment was not straight forward due to the crack but Dr Shakir after a lengthy time managed to save the tooth/restore it and prevent what I believe most dentists would have done which install a crown - Thank you!

Highly recommend this dentist and service and I am grateful for not only seeing me within an hour but also staying passed closing time and finally for doing a Stella job.

Best dentist ever hands down. Least painful and least scary experiences here (I'm usually really scared of going to the dentist, and even find the initial anaesthetic injection painful) - they really care about the patient, and making sure you're comfortable, results are also fab. Seriously can't imagine a better dentist!
