Dental Crowns in Holborn, London

A type of cap that is designed to cover a real tooth, a dental crown is a restorative treatment that is used to cover a damaged tooth and restore it to its previous form and function.

As dentistry experts, the team at Museum Dental Suites is highly experienced in providing a range of treatments for injured, decayed or damaged teeth and we can fit new dental crowns, as well as replace those that are damaged or worn out.

Why do I Need a Dental Crown?

While good dental hygiene – including brushing and flossing on a daily basis – can go a long way towards improving your oral health and preventing problems like tooth decay, sometimes problems can’t be avoided, in which case treatments like fillings or dental crowns may be necessary.

Dental crowns are generally fitted when a tooth is badly decayed or has been injured beyond the point where a filling would be a suitable treatment. Crowns are also often placed after root canal surgery and they are sometimes used to simply improve the appearance of a tooth.

Crowns may be made from metal or porcelain – and the latter is increasingly common, as the white material cannot be easily seen once placed over the tooth.

Getting a Dental Crown

When placing a dental crown, your dentist will begin by removing any decayed or damaged tooth. An impression of the tooth is then taken and sent off to a lab to be manufactured – a temporary filling is put in place.

On your next visit, the temporary filling is removed and the permanent crown is fixed into place using a resin cement to bond the crown to your tooth. Your dentist will then make minor adjustments to ensure that it fits well and doesn’t affect the way you bite or chew.
